A resonator delete on an Audi TT (Mk2) refers to the removal of the resonator, which is a component of the exhaust system that helps to reduce noise and vibration. Removing the resonator can result in a louder exhaust tone and a slight increase in power. However, it may also increase drone or noise inside the vehicle, particularly at highway speeds.
Learn how to easily delete your mid resonator box on the MK2 TT. To get started, you will need the following tools:
- Angle grinder or reciprocating saw (Recommended)
- 13mm Spanner
- Gun gum exhaust paste
- Car jack & axle stands or 2 tonne car ramps
- Protective gloves
- Safety glasses
- Res delete pipe
Safely lift your TT in the air
If you’re using a car jack & axle stands, ensure you safely jack both sides of the car and support securely with the axle stands. If you’re using ramps ensure you have a friend or relative to help guide you onto the ramps or vice versa.
Make your cut near the back box
You should be able to locate 3 dots on the exhaust near the backbox, cut on the middle dot. If you can’t find the dots on the exhaust, cut where shown on the tape measure below with your angle grinder or reciprocating saw.
Safety first: remember to wear your safety glasses and protective gloves!

Install your new pipework
Next, loosen the clamp in the middle (x2 13mm spanners) after making your cut and remove the centre res from the car. Then, place plenty of exhaust paste around each joint on your new exhaust, set up your pipes and clamp down when you’re happy with your install.

Inside the resonator
As you can see from the image below, we cut open the resonator to reveal how that sporty exhaust note originally gets lost. In the middle of the box, the pipe going in is separated from the other pipe going out which is punctured multiple times to circulate exhaust gases around the resonator box, restricting flow.
