The Audi TT MK3 (8S) is a sleek and stylish sports car that is designed to deliver a high-performance driving experience. This combination is a recipe for inevitable modifications as the TT’s timeless design has been a head turner since its release of the MK1 back in 1998.

A particular modification TT owners like to do is respraying/wrapping the fuel cap. If you’re handy with a spray can, this job is pretty straight forward to do. To do the job properly, it’s good practice to remove the fuel cap entirely from the car in order to correctly prepare the surface and to give yourself the finish for your pride and joy.

Removing your Audi TT (8S) fuel cap

Step 1: After popping open your fuel cap you will be able to see a small slot (circled in red below). Using a flat head screw driver, slide it into this hole while pulling back, gently but firmly, on the outer fuel cap face with your hand.

Step 2: Once the outer cap is removed, simply unscrew each bolt on the ring piece which will allow you to remove that part from the car

Step 3: Prepare your parts ready for their new colour. Tackling this will depend on whether you want to wrap or spray it with a new color.

Preparing for wrap, simply clean the fuel cap thoroughly with isopropyl alcohol, remembering to clean the inside of the cap where your vinyl will wrap around.

Preparing for spray, lightly sand in one direction using 2000 grit wet sand paper. Ensure you get as much of the intricate areas as possible, including around the TT letters. Once you have a smooth, even surface you can then begin to apply your new colour.
