If you’re looking for an exhaust modification to enhance the sound on your S3 without splashing out on a new exhaust system, a resonator delete is a popular first choice among Audi owners.

It’s important to note this article is for those looking to do this at home on a budget – preferably with an interest in doing it yourself. Alternatively, you can use this piece as reference to see whether it’s actually worth doing or whether it may be better opting for a complete new exhaust system. Either way, we’re happy you’re here and we hope this helps you out.

To begin, you will at least need the following to carry out this job successfully:

  • A marker pen
  • Car jack
  • Axle stands
  • Exhaust pipe cutting pliers
  • A ratchet set and;
  • No fear

1. Safely jack up your car.

Safely jack up your car and rest it on at least 2 axle stands. If you have access to hydraulic ramps and a smooth flat surface, even better!

2. Mark where you’re going to cut.

Locate the resonator, which is the small box before the back box. Then, with your new res delete pipe, line up the flared end of your new pipe with your existing pipe. Once you’re happy, mark the pipe at the back end of the resonator (towards the rear of the car) where you’re going to cut.

Remember: Measure twice, cut once.

3. Cut and remove your resonator.

Use your pipe cutter to cut on the mark you made with your permanent marker. once cut, unbolt the 2 13mm bolts from the front OEM sleeve, pry the resonator from the hanger to release the res box from the exhaust system.

At this point you may be considering using your original exhaust sleeve when installing your new pipe. Doing this is fine however if your kit comes with a new one it may be easier to go ahead and install that one.

4. Install your new pipe.

With your new pipe, slide your new sleeve onto the non-flared side of the pipe first (Or both sides if you’re not reusing the OEM sleeve) and then proceed to seat the hanger into the rubber mount. From there, you can loosely position everything into place and then tighten both clamps once you’re happy everything lines up flush and you’re done!

Remember: Keep hold of your resonator as this kit is designed to be reversible. The new sleeve from the kit can be clamped back over the cut section to rehouse your original resonator box.
