If you’re looking for an exhaust modification to enhance the sound on your i30N without splashing out on a new exhaust system, a GPF (gasoline particulate filter) 3″ stainless steel delete pipe from RPM Performance is a popular first choice among Hyundai owners.

It’s important to note this article is for those looking to do this at home on a budget – preferably with an interest in doing it yourself. Alternatively, you can use this piece as reference to see whether it’s actually worth doing or whether it may be better opting for a complete new exhaust system. Either way, we’re happy you’re here and we hope this helps you out.

To begin, you will at least need the following to carry out this job successfully:

  • Car jack

  • Axle stands and;

  • A ratchet/spanner set

1. Safely jack up your car.

2. Locate the GPF

The GPF on the i30N is the big box located towards the front of the car at the bottom of the downpipe.

3. Remove the GPF

Using your ratchet and spanner, remove the x2 bolts from the one side of the GPF first. Then, remove the x2 sensors with your spanner, followed by removing the x2 other bolts located on the other end to release it from the factory exhaust system.

Here’s what the inside looks like:

4. Install your new GPF delete pipe

Offer up your brand new pipe to the original exhaust system and bolt both ends up fully. Then reinstall your plugs with your spanner and your new exhaust system is now ready to be enjoyed.

Note: This installation process will also require your car to be mapped.

Frequently Asked Questions

We gathered the answers to some popular questions below.
If you can’t find your question below feel free to contact us, and we’ll be happy to help.

What is a GPF?

The Gasoline Particulate Filter (GPF) stems from the technology employed in Diesel Particulate Filters (DPF), but its purpose is to regulate particulate emissions originating from engines that utilize gasoline direct injection (GDI)

Is a GPF delete legal?

The removal of GPF/PFF is typically promoted for exclusive usage in off-road scenarios. It’s important to note that tampering with the emissions system of a vehicle intended for on-road use is against the law and could potentially void your insurance coverage in the event of an accident.

Is a GPF the same as a DPF?

GPFs share a similar honeycomb structure with DPFs, but they are exclusively constructed using ceramic cordierite material. This material is carefully engineered with a specialized wall microstructure to effectively handle the unique properties of gasoline exhaust.
