If you own a Ford Fiesta ST MK8 1.5 3 cylinder EcoBoost and find yourself either reaching the recommended interval, seeking to enhance your vehicle’s performance, or addressing a misfire problem, then it’s time to consider a coil pack and spark plug replacement. These components are crucial for igniting the fuel-air mixture within your Ford Fiesta’s combustion chamber, ensuring optimal power delivery and efficiency.
In this guide, we will provide you with a simple and straightforward step-by-step process to effortlessly replace the coil pack and spark plugs.
Tools needed:
- 10mm socket
- T40 torx bit
- 16mm spark plug socket
- 150mm extension
- Magnetic pick-up tool (optional)
- Torque wrench
Step 1: Carefully lift the engine cover by gently pulling upwards then back towards you. The back of the cover sits slightly under the bulk head so remove with caution.

Step 2: Lift the valve and loosen its holder using a 10mm socket to gain access to cylinder 1 coil screw.

Step 3: Release the electrical connectors from each coil by pulling up on the white tab and then pressing down and gently pulling back to remove it.

Step 4: With your T40 torx bit, loosen the screw on each coil, retrieve them with a magnetic pick-up tool and remove each coil by hand.

Step 5: With your 16mm spark plug socket on a 150mm extension, remove all 3 spark plugs. (Note: If your spark plug socket is missing its rubber insert, you can use your magnetic pick-up tool to remove your spark plug)

Step 6: Then, do everything in reverse ensuring you tighten each spark plug down to around 13lb ft (18nm).
