If you own a 2018-2020 Mazda CX-3 and have been noticing a decrease in performance, experiencing misfires, or if you’re approaching the recommended interval for spark plug and coil pack replacement, it’s crucial to consider replacing them. To save time and money, our 5-step guide will help you to carry out this task conveniently at home.
Tools needed:
- Socket wrench set
- 8mm socket
- 14mm spark plug socket
- Extension bar
- Torque wrench (capable of measuring 16 ftlbs or 21nm)
Step 1: Remove the engine cover and disconnect the connector to each coil pack.

Step 2: Remove the 8mm bolt that holds down each coil, then pull out each coil by hand.

Step 3: With a 14mm spark plug socket on an extension bar, remove all 4 spark plugs.

Step 4: Hand tighten your new spark plugs into place before torquing each one down to around 16 ftlbs (21nm).

Step 5: Then do everything in reverse order. Seat your coil packs back into place, secure each one down with your 8mm bolt and reconnect your connector.
