If you’re hearing clunking and/or are feeling a loss in handling when cornering, then it may be time to change your rear anti roll bar/sway bar bushes. Overtime, these bushes will inevitably become worn and therefore need changing. Thankfully, the parts are cheap and it’s relatively easy to do it yourself on your driveway.
Below, we have outlined the tools and steps required to successfully change your bushes in 5 simple steps.
Tools needed:
- 10mm triple square spline
- Flat head screwdriver
Step 1: Safely jack up your car to a comfortable work height if you’re working on the ground. Alternatively, if you have access to a hydraulic ramp then that will make life a lot easier.

Step 2: Unbolt the X2 bolts on both brackets with your 10mm triple square spline.

Step 3: Gently pry the bracket off of each rubber bushing. Note, depending on your tool setup, you may have to drop the exhaust a little or jack up the suspension to gain better access to one of the bolts.

Step 4: Apply silicone grease on the inside and outside of your new bushings. This will help make installation easier and also prevent any annoying squeaks that may occur when you’re driving.

Step 5: Then, do everything in reverse, remembering to add a small drop of blue thread locker to the bolts before tightening them to spec. Sway bar (anti roll bar) bushes usually last the lifetime of the car so you may never need to replace them again.
