This easy-to-follow spark plug change guide will help you to keep you 2.5L VW golf in tip top condition. This process is crucial on all petrol cars in order to maintain peak performance and fuel efficiency. And best of all, it can be done at home on your driveway.

Tools Needed:

  • T20 torx
  • Hose clamp
  • Magnetic spark plug socket
  • Ratchet/torque ratchet

Step 1: Remove the X2 T20 screws from the inlet ducting.

Step 2: Remove the hose clamp.

Step 3: Remove the engine cover by pulling straight up on each corner.

Note: If you have an air compressor or a detail brush, it might be a good idea to clean off any debris on the top of the engine.

Step 4: Disconnect the wiring harness to each of the coil packs. You may need a screw driver for leverage.

Step 5: Remove the coil packs by pulling straight up.

Step 6: Using a 16mm magnetic spark plug socket and an extension, remove all 5 spark plugs.

Step 7: Lower in your new spark plugs and carefully tighten them in by hand first to avoid any cross-threading.

Step 6: Torque each spark plug to 25nm (18ft lbs).

Step 7: Before pushing your coil packs all the way down, install the wiring harness onto them first and then seat all 5 coil packs into place.

Step 8: reinstall your engine cover/intake pipe and you’re all done!
