This guide will walk you through the steps to replace/upgrade the air intake filter on a first-generation Audi R8. The process is simple and should take no more than 20 minutes to complete.
Tools Needed:
- T25 torx
- Long-reach magnet tool
- Ratchet (optional)
- Flat head screwdriver
- T20 torx
Step 1: Loosen the x10 T25 torx screws that hold down the lid of the air filter box to reveal the 2 filters inside. Remember, the screws do not remove from the box completely.
Also, remember to remove the trim with the “V10 FSI” writing on to access the other screws.

Step 2: Loosen the x2 jubilee clips that connect the pipe to the intake with a flat head screwdriver.

Step 3: Disconnect the electrical connector by pushing the tab in and pull it out. You may find this easier with a flat head screwdriver – remembering not to press too hard as the tabs can easily break.

Step 4: With your T20 torx, remove the MAF sensor from the original pipe and transfer it over onto your new one.

Step 5: Then, install your brand new K&N filters (or OEM if you prefer) and simply do everything else in reverse order.
