For Audi TTRS/RS3 owners experiencing reduced performance, misfires, or approaching the recommended spark plug and coil pack replacement interval, it’s vital to consider replacing them. Our easy 6-step guide enables you to do this job at home.
Tools needed:
- T20 Torx
- Coil Puller Tool (optional): If struggling to remove the coils by hand, a coil puller tool can be used to make the job easier.
- 16mm Spark Plug Socket
- Extension Bar: Attached to the spark plug socket to provide reach and leverage.
- Torque Wrench
Step 1: Remove the x2 T20 torx screws from the loom cover.

Step 2: Pull back on the connector clips firmly but gently to release them from each coil.

Step 3: Gently pull back the loom and begin to remove all x5 coils from the engine by pulling straight up on them. (Note: IF you’re struggling to remove the coils, you can buy a coil puller tool which will help to make the job easier)

Step 4: Remove each spark plug with a 16mm spark plug socket attached to an extension bar.

Step 5: Hand-tighten your new spark plugs into position and then torque each one down to 30nm (22 lbs ft).

Step 6: Then, simply do everything else in reverse order. Ensure that you correctly reinstall your electrical connectors to the coils – you will hear a click to let you know they’re seated properly.
