If you have a 2013-2021 Range Rover L405 and you’re experiencing reduced performance, misfires, or are due for spark plug/coil pack change, our easy step-by-step guide will show you how to do this at home.
Tools needed:
- 14mm spark plug socket
- T30 torx
- Extension bar
- Flexible joint adapter
- Torque wrench
- Screwdriver (optional)
- Extendable magnet bar (optional)
Step 1: Remove the oil filler cap in order to remove the plastic shield that covers the coil packs. (Remember to put the oil cap back once this shield is removed).

Step 2: Pull back on the grey clip on each coil pack connector. Then push down and pull to release. (You may find the assistance of a small flat-head screwdriver will help removing these).

Step 3: Using a T30 torx, remove each of the screws holding down each coil pack.

Step 4: Remove each coil pack by hand. Then, with a 14mm spark plug socket on an extension bar with a flexible joint adapter, remove each spark plug.

Step 5: Hand tighten each new spark into place by hand and then torque each one down to 20nm (15lbft).

Step 6: Do everything else in reverse and then move onto the other side. Remember, the process is the same except you have a rubber shield that is held in by 2 pins that needs to be pulled back carefully to release.
