This short guide shows you how to easily change a fuel filter in a VW Passat CC 2009 at home.
Tools needed:
- T20 torx/8mm socket
- Pick tool
- Mini crowbar/flat head screw driver
- Paper towels
Step 1: Remove the two hoses from the plastic clips. This will allow more flexibility when you install your new filter.

Step 2: Undo the screws that secure the lid to the fuel filter housing. You should have X5 T20 torx screws to undo. However, in this case ours have been changed to 8mm hexagon bolts.
Note: Ensure you place paper towels around the filter.

Step 3: Gently pry around the perimeter of the lid to remove it from the housing. Pull out your old filter and then with your pick tool remove the rubber o-ring from the lid.

Step 4: Add your new o-ring (remembering to add a touch of oil around the perimeter) and then push in your new filter.

Step 5: Secure the lid into place, tightening each screw in a criss cross pattern ensuring not to overtighten them. Then, finish by clipping the hoses back into place and then check for any leaks after turning your car on.
