Maintaining your Audi Q3’s transfer case is essential for keeping its all-wheel-drive system in peak condition. Regular transfer case oil changes ensure that the gears and components inside stay lubricated and function smoothly.

According to Audi Ottawa, the recommended service interval for the transfer case oil in your Q3 is first at 15,000 km or one year after delivery, whichever comes first, and every 30,000 km or two years after that.

In this guide, we’ll walk you through the steps to change the transfer case oil on your Audi Q3/RSQ3 at home.

Tools needed:

Step 1: Safely jack the car up evenly and remove all the torx bolts holding the undertray in place.

Step 2: Locate the fill and drain plugs (circled in red below). Then, with an 8mm allen head, it’s important to remove the fill plug first. These bolts can be tricky to remove sometimes and it’s good practice NOT to empty out the transfer case first if you can’t fill it back up.

Step 3: Now remove the drain plug to empty out the transfer case.

Step 4: With a new washer bolt reinstall the drain plug and wipe the area clean.

Step 5: With your fluid extractor and Motul 75W90, refill your transfer case until it starts to drip out.

Step 6: Then, reinstall your bolt with a new washer.

Once you’ve put everything back together and taken your car off the jack stands, take your car for a steady drive. Ensure you’ve driven a few hundred miles before undertaking spirited driving.
